What sets DETMAR™ apart from other curricula?
DETMAR™ immerses the student into a hands on, communicational environment. It is the first curriculum to include detailed, step by step directions, for all students, including those with varying types of disabilities.
DETMAR™ incorporates RICS™, Real Image Communication System, into all aspects of the curriculum. This is preferable to drawings because the student does not need to infer what the picture is before using it as a communication system.
Hands on learning
Each child has access to hands-on learning with each endeavor.
Gradual increases in difficulty
The curriculum is designed to increase at each individual child’s pace.
Increased positive behavior skills
A child tends to behave in a negative manner when he or she has no means of communication. DETMAR™ helps to develop the child’s communication skills. This gives them a way to appropriately express their needs and wants.
In order to navigate through life, a child requires a way to communicate needs and wants, and become independent in all life skill areas. These areas include:
- personal maintenance
- domestic maintenance
- functional academics
- recreation and leisure
- interpersonal communication
This curriculum focuses on communication and independence for daily skills through a step by step process.
Regression occurs, but DETMAR™ enables the child to regain lost skills, and may even prevent regression, through repetition and constant review of gained skills.
The DETMAR™ curriculum contains all necessary data sheets to collect data in all domains. This includes data sheets for the teacher’s daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly records for each child.
